STORIES OF KNIFE AND GUN

It's all about the light and the sound
out of a clear summer's day
a flash of lightning and thunder
almost together, close.

Then the air is full of angry bees
the ground too, unhappy, shoots sparks and zings
a fleshy slap so loud I see it as stars
and the concrete stops me
from falling further.

For a while there is no light
and someone sobs through the storm
I want them to stop and try to swim their way
but the water is thick and warm
and I am tired and cold.

The dawn is red and blue and screaming beasts
so I join them for a song about pain and fear
until one swallows me
into it's bright flourescent gut

and hums me a lullaby of beeps.
