The Fall of Rome
A crooked iron cross
On a rock in a jungle
Catching dying light
Of an ancient setting sun
A lithe and deadly hunter
On a branch of a tree
Waiting, watching, silent
The keeper of the night
A waxing pearly moon
On the face of the sky
The half spilled tear
Of a being freckled by the stars
A portrait of a lady
On the wall of a house
Framed by crumbling walls
And the stains of blood past shed
And all that we have left
On a planet deep in space
Are dusty dying embers
Our love that dies a silent death.
